Let the Journey Begin

ABOUT US

Counseling of the Bluegrass was born from a dream I carried all through my college years. I knew my purpose was to help people and I furthermore wanted to give back to my hometown of Paris, KY. During college and upon graduation, I worked for a wonderful clinic in Lexington and Georgetown, gaining experience in both the clinical and administrative realm. In 2016, it was time to take my leap of faith and bring my dream to fruition! Counseling of the Bluegrass was established as a labor of love and continues to run that way. Home is where the heart is and Kentucky will always be my home. I have a deep rooted passion for my work and more so, a dedication to my clients. In my personal approach to therapy, there is no “one size fits all”, I tailor my treatment to fit the needs of each and every individual client. The sole focus of treatment isn’t about pushing a client where they need to be but more about meeting them where they are, and beginning that journey together.

Honorable and Very Respectful mention to Mr. Daniel A. Lee of Counseling Associates of Lexington.

  • MENTAL HEALTH

The signs and symptoms of mental health issues can vary widely in severity and frequency from person to person. It’s important to know that mental health issues do not need to be “serious” in order for you to reach out for support. Whatever you’re going through, your feelings and experiences are valid and you deserve support. But if you are starting to feel concerned about what you are noticing about your mood or behavior, there are warning signs to watch out for—and effective ways to seek help for whatever signs you’re seeing.

    • Sleep or appetite changes — Dramatic sleep and appetite changes or decline in personal care.

    • Withdrawal — Recent social withdrawal and loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed.
    • Drop in functioning — An unusual drop in functioning, at school, work or social activities, such as quitting sports, failing in school or difficulty performing familiar tasks.
    • Problems thinking — Problems with concentration, memory or logical thought and speech that are hard to explain.
    • Increased sensitivity — Heightened sensitivity to sights, sounds, smells or touch; avoidance of over-stimulating situations.
    • Apathy — Loss of initiative or desire to participate in any activity.
    • Feeling disconnected — A vague feeling of being disconnected from oneself or one’s surroundings; a sense of unreality.
    • Illogical thinking — Unusual or exaggerated beliefs about personal powers. Illogical or “magical” thinking, typical of childhood in an adult.
    • Nervousness — Fear or suspiciousness of others or a strong nervous feeling.
    • Unusual behavior — Odd, uncharacteristic, peculiar behavior.
    • Changes in school or work — Increased absenteeism, worsening performance, difficulties in relationships with peers and co-workers.

    SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Are you struggling from addiction? Do you know someone who is? Overcoming addiction is very challenging but recovery is never out of reach, no matter how hopeless your situation seems or how many times you’ve tried and failed before. With the right treatment and support, change is always possible.

For many people struggling with addiction, the toughest step toward recovery is the very first one: recognizing that you have a problem and deciding to make a change. It’s normal to feel uncertain about whether you’re ready to start recovery, or if you have what it takes to quit. If you’re addicted to a prescription drug, you may be concerned about how you’re going to find an alternate way to treat a medical condition. It’s okay to feel torn. Committing to sobriety involves changing many things, including:

    • The way you deal with stress.
    • Who you allow in your life.
    • What you do in your free time.
    • How you think about yourself.
    • The prescription and over-the-counter medications you take.

It's also normal to feel conflicted about giving up your drug of choice, even when you know it's causing problems in your life. Recovery requires time, motivation, and support, but by making a commitment to change, you can overcome your addiction and regain control of your life- We are here to help you every step of the way.
